Communications Specialist

Job Description:

JPI is looking to hire a Communications Specialist for its strategic communications team. The individual would be responsible for drafting communications plans, presentations, reports, talking points and articles for weekly and monthly newsletters, as well as ad hoc communications materials for targeted audiences.

The Communications Specialist maintains close, productive working relationships with all members of the client team to support the solicitation and development of a variety of communications products. The Communications Specialist reviews communications content and articles prior to management review to ensure a singular voice that addresses the operational goals of identified programs and initiatives.

The Communications Specialist will support the development, writing and editing of annual reports, web content, assorted branding and marketing collateral, and other materials deemed necessary by the JPI communications team in support of client deliverables. The Communications Specialist will also conduct regular media research and generate bi-weekly and monthly communications metrics and impact reports. ​

Primary tasks include:

  • Draft communications plans, messages and talking points
  • Develop communications reports and presentations
  • Write and edit articles for newsletters and publications
  • Coordinate outreach and editorial schedules for all publications and update distribution lists on a regular basis
  • Research, compile and analyze communications metrics to create bi-weekly and monthly communications impact reports

Required skills include:

  • Experience writing communications plans, messaging and talking points
  • Expertise with AP-style writing and editing
  • Ability to write high-quality, thought leadership content pieces requiring minimal edits
  • Extensive experience in writing for both technical and operationally-focused audiences
  • Expertise with digital marketing automation and analytics software and services
  • Expertise with Microsoft Office Suite and database management tools
  • Expertise in analyzing and synthesizing complex and diverse information
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to handle multiple projects and prioritize tasks based on changing situations while meeting strict deadlines
  • Ability to problem-solve using existing procedures, analysis and standard practices to make good judgements
  • Ability to self-start and seek out relevant information to support article development and campaign management
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple and changing priorities while maintaining strong focus on ​key deliverables
  • Expertise with Microsoft Office Suite and database management tools

Desired skills include:

  • Experience working in information technology (IT) communications
  • Experience working on-site with a government client
  • Experience with video production and editing
  • Degree in Journalism, Communications or a related field
