Position Description

​JPI is seeking a Systems Engineer to support a rapidly growing Data Analytics and Business Intelligence platform focused on providing solutions that empower our Federal customers with the tools and capabilities needed to turn data into actionable insights. The ideal candidate is a critical thinker, team player, and motivated, perpetual learner that is excited to gain exposure and build skillsets across a range of technologies while solving some of our clients’ toughest challenges.

The Systems Engineer will be integral to data operations for the development and integration of a variety of data types across a wide range of client data sets and source systems. The Systems Engineer will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of systems that depend on data, ensuring that the systems are available for processing and securely transferring to its appropriate location, in a timely manner. The Systems Engineer will also support maintenance of systems and tools that reside on the systems such as upgrades, patches, and configuration changes.

 

Responsibilities

  • ​​Support, monitor and manage all installed systems, applications and infrastructure
  • Work closely with software engineers and architects to Establish, configure, test and maintain application software and system management tools
  • Work with project manager and engineers to implement and document complex and evolving system changes, as well as support continuous process automation
  • Plan and implement systems automation as required for better efficiency
  • Evaluate the existing systems and provide the technical direction to support staff
  • Oversee the development of customized software and hardware requirement
  • Formulate and design the security system in place to maintain data safety
  • Design systems for data services projects and/or pipelines as part of an Agile/Scrum team
  • Apply established system engineering and management principles to specifications and documentation of systems developed

 

Requirements

​​Basic requirements include:

  • Must be a US Citizen
  • Must be able to obtain a Public Trust Clearance
  • BS degree in System Engineering, Computer Science or related IT field/equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of system engineering experience including experience in install, manage, and maintain systems for large, complex systems and data sets
  • Experience handling multiple tasks, changing priorities, and timely action.
  • Experience with working with systems and applications installations and maintenance
  • Proficiency in data extraction, transformation, ETL processes, and testing tools
  • Demonstrated experience translating system and technical requirements into comprehensive solutions
  • Demonstrated ability to adequately plan and meet delivery objectives and maintain adequate service levels in a highly dynamic, complex environments
  • Experienced in relational databases (Oracle, MySQL, PostgreSQL databases)
  • Hands on experience with software upgrade and deployment documentation
  • Experience in Software Development Life Cycle and Agile Development processes
  • Experience writing and modifying ETL design documentation, Test case documentation and standard operating procedures (SOP) documentation
  • Experience in developing Shell scripts on UNIX
  • Experience in performance tuning of application stacks
  • Good cloud experience especially in Amazon Web Services (AWS)
  • Experience with virtualization (VMware, Virtual Box)
  • Experience in CI/CD infrastructure and continually improve the deployment pipeline
  • Experience deploying services such as: Lambda, EC2, MongoDB, VPC, API Gateway
  • Experienced in Cloud Services operations, including DevOps processes, and intuitively know which ones fit best to achieve operation, automation, and compliance
  • Proficiency with Python, R, and SQL languages, Shell scripting as well as various command line interfaces (Linux, AWS, Bash, etc.)

Additional/Desired Requirements Include:

  • Experience with DHS and knowledge of DHS standards a plus
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate across all levels of the organization and communicate technical terms to non-technical audiences with an impeccable attention to detail
  • Excellent communication, personal, and governance skills
  • Ability to seamlessly work with team associates involved in project management, security, governance, infrastructure, and asset management to resolve problems and manage projects
  • Conflict resolution, analytical, and decision-making skills
  • Experience in information security, integration, application development, and systems software
  • Familiarity with Hive, Hadoop, Kylin, and other big data analytic tools
